Leo Bensemann 1938
Oil on canvas 360 x 300 - Signed and dated lower right "RITA COOK/38"
Rita Angus Loan Collection, National Art Gallery.

Painter, calligrapher and printer at the Caxton Press, Christchurch, Leo Bensemann moved into Sydney Thompson's studio-flat in Cambridge Terrace with Lawrence Baigent in 1938. Rita Angus already had a flat in the same building. Each artist portrayed the other, shared models and drew portraits for one pound apiece.
